We are delighted to announce that this gentleman has received the Trials Guru VIP award of a coveted red cap. He was a rider, an official and a hard working enthusiast when he had a day job.
Having just turned 95 years young, he devoted his life to motorcycle sport.
A Competing Sportsman:
He started trials riding with his local club, the Farnham Royal MC & LCC and he went on to compete and represent Great Britain in several International Six Days Trials, including one for the army whilst doing his National Service.
In Wales, the Isle of Man, Austria and Czechoslovakia. He was part of the GB Trophy team which included Sammy Miller, Johnny Britain, Johnny Giles and Eric Chiltern. He certainly has lots of interesting stories to tell!
In the picture wearing the Trials Guru cap he’s wearing one of his made to measure Barbour jackets, complete with the 1961 GB team badge, proudly worn.
He also rode in the Clubman’s TT in 1956 in the Isle of Man and the Scottish Six Days Trial on a 350cc Matchless.
A Voluntary Official:
1961 was the start of 64 years of voluntary official involvement with all disciplines of motorcycle sport.
From the early days with the Farnham Royal MC & LCC, South Midland Centre, ACU to the FIM in 1980. He was on the board of directors for the FIM until 2000. He is currently Honorary Vice Presidents of both ACU and FIM.
There are a lot of technical titles over the years within all of the above organisations. Growing up, most weekends, he and his family were at some event or other. Only a couple of years ago he chaired a South Midland conference Centre meeting via a zoom meeting.
The Day Job:
He took over the running of his father’s motorcycle business, Sid Moram’s of Slough when his father died in 1959. Started in 1924 Sid Moram’s was one of the UK’s first Honda dealers.
He opened the ‘Windsor Comp Shop’ which was the ‘go to’ place for off-road motorcycles and kit. He also sponsored many riders who went on to do very well, including the grass track World Champion Simon Wigg. One of his sponsored riders won the 250 class Welsh 3 day trial, the first time Honda had won an individual off-road competition in the UK.
Both shops have their own Facebook pages where people regularly share memories and memorabilia.
He is of course COLIN MORAM – Dedicated to the sport.
