Multiple British Trials Champion and World Championship contender, James Dabill will be in Northern Ireland for a weekend of events on Saturday, 10th and Sunday, 11th of August 2019 in association with Ards and North Down Borough Council.
James will be appearing with Trialstar alongside Multiple Ulster and Irish Champion Andy Perry at The Portavogie Sea Food Festival on Saturday 10th of August from 12pm and then he will be at Whitespots Trials Park in Newtownards on Sunday 11th of August 2019 in conjunction with Moto Trial NI.
James will be giving a Trials School to local competitors on Sunday morning and then competing in a Super Trial event in the afternoon from 1pm alongside the top riders from across Ireland.
If you want to be amazed at what can be done on a motorbike, make sure you get along to either event.

The Richmond Motor Club have had no option but to cancel the annual Youth Training Training School.
It was scheduled for July 31/August 1, however flood damage at Lawrence Allison’s Cogden Hall Farm and other road damage have forced road closures in the Grinton area and this has given organisers Vicky Andrews and Pam Braithwaite no options at this time.
They hope to find an alternative date in August to get the school back on track.
Trials Guru and the wider trials community send our sympathies to landowners and farmers at this very difficult time of flash flooding in the North Yorkshire Dales.

Since the ravaging floods of July 30th 2019, much has been reported in the national press and television.
The Richmond Motor Club (Yorkshire) Ltd have since called a meeting of members and committee as they regularly make use many areas of farm land and moorland in the Reeth/Grinton/Richmond area and are keen to make a contribution to the plight of local landowners.
It is believed that the club are keen to mobilise help parties of club members and trials riders to effect a clean up and support operation on a local basis.
Club members have been asked to check the RMC website for details of club activity in this regard.

The 2019 Highland Classic Two Day Trial – The SWM Edition will go down as one of the most memorable, with the 1979 FIM World Trials Champion and 1982 SSDT winner, Bernie Schreiber as the Inverness & District MCC Ltd’s Guest of Honour, taking centre-stage. Schreiber’s attendance being the first part of a global forty years celebration of the only USA rider to win a Trials title.

60 year old Schreiber didn’t just be the man of the moment, he rode the trial on a specially prepared TL320 SWM, supplied by MotoSWM.com of Cheddar, Somerset.
SWM UK supremo, Martin Matthews attended the event as ‘Trial Partner’ to ensure that the machine fitted Bernie’s requirements during the weekend.
Bernie also launched his world-wide S3 / Schreiber Collection 40 year clothing range at the Highland venue.

But that was not all, Schreiber had carefully negotiated the use of the prestigious Alvie Estate facilities to host a special trials training and educational day on the Monday following directly on from the main event.

Aptly entitled the ‘Bernie Schreiber Experience’, it covered not only bike-craft, but a seventy-minute unique classroom session which was very well received by the twenty students.

The trial itself consisted of eighteen sections covered twice per day with a variation on the second day to keep riders on their toes.

One hundred and sixty riders plus twenty-two ‘Guest Riders’ took part, including three times World Champion, Yrjo Vesterinen; TT winner, Iain Duffus; 250cc British racing champion, Donnie McLeod; former Honda factory trials rider, Nick Jefferies plus ten overseas riders from Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, France and Southern Ireland.

It was hoped that former World Champion in 1981, Gilles Burgat would attend as Special Guest, but he damaged his shoulder at this year’s Scottish Six Days and was still recovering with a possible operation planned in the near future.
Schreiber told Trials Guru: “I really enjoyed my first visit back to Scotland in thirty-seven years. I was determined to add value to my role as the motor club’s guest and I think my input was not only well receive, but substantial. I stayed with the Inverness & District’s Company Secretary, John Moffat and we discussed many aspects of how to make a good event even better, I’m sure he will be taking quite a few of my suggestions and proposals to their board of directors. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Scotland and the scenery at Alvie Estate was breathtaking. I rode the first day with John and day two with Vesty and the company also helped make the visit that bit more special. I aim to return next year to the Highland Classic if I can, for their 2020 Fantic Edition.”

S3 have launched the exclusive BERNIE SCHREIBER Celebration Collection today in Scotland, on the Alvie Estate, near Aviemore. 2019 marks forty years of Trials history since Screiber’s 1979 World Championship victory.

This year’s Moidart Run for classic motorcycles will take place from Kinlochleven on Thursday, 2nd May with the assembly at 9:00am GMT.
The event was filled to its maximum back in February and there are a fair few notables from the world of trials and motocross taking part as guest riders this year.
Trials Guru will be in attendance with John Moffat riding his father’s 347cc AJS 16MC from the early 1950s, a machine that was used in two SSDTs (1953 & 1954).
The route is around 100 miles taking in Glenfinnan, Roshven, Strontian, Laudale, Lochailort and back to the finish at Kinlochleven.
Thirteen year old Partridge Green, Horsham, trials rider Jack Dance excelled in the opening event in the European Youth Championship at Peitramurata, Italy, on Sunday claiming an impressive second place riding his JST Gas Gas heading fellow Brit, Ben Dignan From Roy Bridge, Fort William, Scotland by two marks.
East Keswick youngster Harry Hemingway was a close fourth with Buxton’s Harry Turner taking ninth place in a teenage star studded entry of the top Euro youngsters.
Dance was his typical cool self and Nicky and Adrian stopped off in Genoa and the Pro Park where some time and days were practicing on testing terrain before heading back up Italy to the trial venue. The short halt at the Pro Park gave Jack time to acclimatise in the altitude of the mountains but he was nervous initially at the trial venue. He knew it was going to a long tough day and took the morning build-up in his stride. Relaxing and drinking plenty of liquid to negate hydration paid dividends that were required when the chain let go in section three. The sprint back to parc ferme for another link and tools took some time and energy. It was a tough start for the entire entry. Only Dignan and winner Pau Martinez got through section four along with Harry Turner, Enzo Rossi and Fabian David. After the chain failure incident, thought to be that a loose stone tangled with the chain. Dance got his head down and did not let the opening sections rattle him. He settled down to serious business with more confidence.
His second lap was ten under his opening circuit and only bettered by winner Martinez. His style took him up the order and onto the podium. More than ever Jack Dance, at fourteen years of age, is a planner and thinker. He was quite surprised at the end result and it was time to smile – a big smile.

Richmond Motor Club (Yorkshire) Ltd were delighted to recently present representatives
of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance with a cheque for £500. This service has, on occasion been used by riders of the club, as well as the local community.
It is important to give back as much as possible to continue to support this charitable organisation.
The funds were raised from a raffle at a dinner held in December for all
the landowners, gamekeepers and farmers at The Garden Rooms at Tennants,
Leyburn.

Glasshouses electrical engineer Danny Gamble lit up the moors above Beamsley on Saturday afternoon to ride his Sherco machine to overall victory in the Ilkley Grand National time trial. Only Gamble and Barnoldswick engineer Anthony Ayrton broke the two hour time covering three laps of moorland without an inch of tarmac. Ayrton, well into the over forties age category, won the Inter class just four minutes and three second behind the winner. Finghall youngster Robert Weatherill really hit the moors with a vengeance His descent down the face of Beamsley Beacon was awesome in speed. Bellerby’s Ryan Brown was also rapid but a sliding front wheel saw man and machine cartwheel into the into the heather. Ryan was up in a flash and motored off into distance at about the same speed. The actual times have no effect on the results as both expert three lap route and the shorter two lap club route are calculated of the average of the fastest ten finishers.

The expert time average was 2hrs,5mins,45secs. The Clubman figures were 1hr,34mins,3 secs. Gamble, Glusburn builder Nathan Wrigglesworth, Robert Weatherill, and Anthony Ayrton did not incur time penalties. The coveted Freddy Clayton Trophy was won by Richmond Over 40’s contender Chris Tett. The shorter Clubman route was equally difficult as the entire entry rode all twenty section but only twice. Consett visitor Chris Barnett won the class with a best on observation and no time penalties from Coverdale’s Sam Lambert who was riding his first Grand National. Time penalties dropped Howard Gulley and Ian Myers down the results order the third and fourth. British Ladies Inter class national champion Bethanie Dunning finished in ninth place beating her father Jason by two penalties. Only seven retirements were posted from a total of fifty seven starters.

Despite recent adverse weather conditions the ten mile lap was moderate underfoot and wheels. As in past years, a west wind and some sunshine lifts the moisture off the terrain.
The sting in the tale was section twenty where Airedale & Pennine Motor Club official John Rhodes spent much time lifting the section marker flags and washing them in any available pool of water. One spinning rear wheel in the swamp negated all John’s efforts!

Ted Harston is a living legend in Richmond Motor Club circles.
For over three decades the Craythorne, Yarm, man has overseen the tuition and trial riding activities of youngsters from the age of four years and upwards.
His nickname is ‘TY Ted’ coined from the original TY 80cc Yamaha machine on which many riders learned their craft.
Ted has marked out trials routes suitable for beginners and observed their activities. For his services the Richmond Motor Club (Yorkshire) Ltd presented Mr. Harston the Captain’s Cup.
The annual Bob MacGregor Memorial run takes place on Tuesday 30th April at Killin in Perthshire, this year it will be dedicated to the memory of Westmorland stalwart, John Holmes.
Holmes was a reknowned specials builder, trials rider and ISDT competitor. He was a former Bob MacGregor run guest of honour.
